Watermelon, Strawberry & Banana Smoothie

Summer arrived early here on the West Coast. One of my New Year’s resolutions was to buy a Vitamix. Guess what I did. I finally broke down and splurged, after two years of hinting and hinting at D, I did it. Timing could not be more perfect. I can’t wait to experiment with different smoothies, popsicles, soups, salad dressing, and pesto. With the warmer temperatures, my girls are craving something more than water to quench their thirst. Something cold, sweet, and flavourful. Being a dietician, I prefer my girls to quench their thirst with water, but recognize that water does not always cut it. I approve of naturally flavoured smoothies in comparison to those sugar ladened smoothies from the stores. This watermelon, strawberry and banana smoothie is naturally sweetened and deliciously satisfying to quench your thirst after a hot afternoon.

My girls love  watermelon, we went through 1/2 a watermelon in one day. I mean what is their not to love about watermelon? It is sweet, 90 % water and packed with the antioxidant lycopene. I added strawberries, banana and greek yogurt to thickened up the smoothie. Miss E loved it. Mommy this tastes so “good” can we make this “everyday” I kindly reminded her that they are still considered “treats” but if she is open to adding some leafy greens, cucumber, hemp hearts or oats than maybe we could negotiate.  I think cucumber and mint would add a nice refreshing flavour.
